Old Dominion University is located in Norfolk, Virginia, a city of 270,000.
Norfolk has a warm southern climate and is only 20 minutes from the ocean resort of
Virginia Beach. The English Language Center offers six seven-week sessions each year. Each
week, full-time students spend at least 20 hours in class studying grammar,
reading/vocabulary, listening/speaking, and writing. The ELC has a fully equipped language
lab where students spend time outside of class watching videotaped lectures, working with
pre-recorded audio tapes, and utilizing the latest in CD-ROM computer-assisted
instruction. A special course in TOEFL preparation is available to upper level students.
Electives and conversation partners are available each term...

Founded in 1838,Virginia Commonwealth Univeristy is an urban, public, Carnegie
Research-1 University with over 21,000 students. Increasingly, international students are
selecting VCU because of its excellent academic reputation and its wide range of programs
including enginieering, medicine and life sciences, arts and education. The VCU -English
Language Program has activities every week for students outside of their classes. Each
