School Introduction

Set in spacious grounds, Seymour College has been carefully developed through the years to provide a setting which enhances the many academic, social, creative and sporting opportunities available to girls.

Seymour College values and promotes scholastic achievement according to the individual ability and encourages each student to develop her talents and interests fully in a wide range of pursuits. Many of the College's international students have found success and satisfaction in their chosen careers and fields of endeavour and all have had the benefit of one of the best educations available.

In addition to the comprehensive and supportive academic program, the College recognizes the very special pastoral needs of its international students and provides a caring and responsive environment for girls who are living away from home and family.

International students are accepted into any year level but the College prefers to accept students as early as possible, thus allowing them time to adjust to the Australian lifestyle and its school system, as well as giving them sufficient time to develop their language skills before commencing the senior secondary South Australian Certificate of Education.

Courses Offered

As part of its academic program, Seymour College operates a "bridging course" for international students. The course provides the necessary links between language and learning. Seymour recognizes the difficulties that students face when limited language skills prevent successful learning in their chosen course of study.

Intensive English tuition is provided on a daily basis. Students work from their assessed level, extending their understanding of grammar, spelling, structures and general vocabulary. They also receive support is all subject areas and are given specialised vocabulary sessions for subjects where the understanding of terminology is critical.

Students study a range of core subjects including Language, Mathematics, Science, Society and Environment, English, Information Technology and Religious Studies. They also take part in extensive specialist programs including Art, Physical Education and Music. In addition, Seymour College offers international students an extensive co-curricular and extra-curricular program, ensuring they have a balanced education.

Each year approximately 70% of the College's eligible final year students are ranked in the top 10% of the State for university entrance, i.e. a Tertiary Entrance Ranking greater than 90.
